My
Story:
Fast Forward !
My Story :
"Iam a pediatrician turned neonatologist turned quality improvement enthusiast .Professionally I trained from the Banares Hindu University in 1997 into Pediatrics and then moved on to join my senior residency at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.
Subsequently, I joined Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram , Wardha as a Lecturer in the Department of Pediatrics in the year 1998.I worked under the guidance of the legendary Dr Sushila Nayar, an eminent Gandhian and a Great Freedom Fighter. We performed Shram Dan, wore Khadi, attended community prayers and practiced vegetarianism and non alcoholism.I worked for 4 years in the rural settings of Sevagram and that is where my roots for public health were acquired.I clearly understood that India needed simple replicable cost effective interventions rather than fancy theoretical interventions often aped from West. I moved to New Delhi in 2002 after being selected by UPSC as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in Lady Hardinge Medical College. I joined Kalawati Saran Children's Hospital, the largest Children's Hospital of North India and was posted in the then division of Neonatology. I continue to look after one of the largest NICU's in N India and subsequent to the formation of the department of neonatology in 2012 I was absorbed in the neonatology faculty pool."
My Associations with NNF:
"Dates to early 2003 when I participated in District Newborn Care Program of NNF, subsequently I served actively in Delhi NNF from 2003-2010.I moved to Central NNF as Joint Secretary 2011-2012 and as Secretary General 2013-2014."I edited the Journal of Neonatology as Editor in Chief during this period.
My Journey 2015 Onwards :
"From 2015 onwards , I was fortunate to have been mentored by the WHO Hq, WHO SEARO, MOHFW GOI, USAID ASSIST and various partners into the science of Quality Improvement. Me and some friends voluntarily assembled a self sustaining network for QI in India called the Nationwide Quality of Care Network (NQOCN) in 2017-2018 and the journey in pursuit of scaling up QI across the countless district and sub district hospitals of India in association with Pediatricians , Obstetricians and Nursing Colleagues still continues. Till date we have touched over 1 million lives, 0.55 million annual deliveries, conducted over 100 Point of Care QI workshops and TOTs and trained over 4000 participants across 15 states of India .We are currently designated as the Technical Partners to Government of India for the LaQshya (Labor Room Quality Improvement Program) .More details can be accessed at www.nqocncop.org."
